EDR/VRC Vex Robotics- ages 13-18 Explore the worlds of robotics, engineering, and coding with the VEX Robotics Design System. Get hands-on to build a frame and base for the robot and engineer its wiring. Teams must adapt their robots to compete in user-piloted challenges and obstacle courses, as well as autonomous robot challenges requiring programming using the ROBOTC software. May the best bot win! Ability to work in a team. There will be three levels of this class offered Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced. Students who participate in all three camps will be invited to join the Modesto Robotics & Technology's Competitive team for next years season starting in August.
VEX IQ- Beginning level ages 7-13
The Vex IQ system is a snap-together plastic building kit that provides great structural strength but also allows for quick changes of design for creativity's sake.
The coding for VEXIQ software is done with ModKit or RobotC which are both available as graphical language. (It uses a Graphical User Interface, or GUI, to help students assemble code quickly without having to know the details of procedural programming). The graphical nature makes it easy for even the youngest students to get started learning the basics of programming the code that makes a robot execute commands.
Moreover, behind the scenes the graphical interface is generating real robotics code in higher level programming languages, so while using the GUI the students are also learning about the structure and logic behind software coding that can easily transfer to other languages such as Robot C.
Advance Level ages 7-13 Join the challenge or the COMPLEX BUILDS….. This is a next level robotics camp! IF you have robotic experience this class is a must. Campers will be selecting from complex builds or designing there own to build. Campers favorite seems to be the 2 wheel “balancing vex bot. Its super cool, but a REAL programming challenge!
What we are using?
Some of the hardware that we will be using are Sensors – Touch, Ultrasound, Gyro and Color; Motors. Programming with Robot C Graphical, Programming language the drag-and-drop feature of ROBOT C, If ready Text C+ code will be used as you advance in your abilities. Next, we learn about loops and conditional blocks. Students understand program flow and modeling complex behavior of a robot. Students will learn about if statements, if-else statements and while loops. This camp requires at least one previous camp week completed, or previous experience with VEX .
Students at MRT Robotics are provided with fun fields to play and get into the competitive world of the VEX IQ Robotics Competitions. Solve the coarse Challenges BEFORE ANYONE ELSE! Work in teams, problem solving and develop critical thinking skills.
